A high-speed collision on Sadiq Road on Wednesday evening left two final-year MBBS students of Guru Gobind Singh (GGS) Medical College with life-altering injuries and resulted in the death of an unidentified elderly man.The proximity of the accident to the medical campus has sent shockwaves through the student community, as the victims — who were months away from becoming doctors — now find themselves fighting for their own health in the very hospital where they were completing their training. The victims have been identified as Ajay Chaudhary and Krishna Pilania, both final-year medical students at GGS Medical College. They were traveling on an Activa when they were struck from behind by a speeding car. Both students sustained multiple compound fractures in their thighs and lower legs. Krishna also suffered a severely broken jaw. Both students are currently receiving medical care from their own professors and colleagues at GGS Medical College and Hospital.According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the car first slammed into the students’ Activa near the medical college gates. In an attempt to flee the scene, the driver accelerated further, losing control and crashing into another motorcycle a short distance away. The rampage only ended when a tyre on the car burst, rendering the vehicle immovable. Bystanders quickly surrounded the car, apprehended the driver, and handed him over to the local police. The rider of the second motorcycle — an elderly man whose identity has not yet been confirmed — was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The accused driver has been identified as Yuvraj Singh from Bathinda. He was reportedly in Faridkot visiting relatives at the time of the crash.“This is a grave incident involving extreme recklessness,” said DSP Tarlochan Singh. “We have seized the vehicle and are investigating the circumstances of the multiple hits. Legal action is being initiated against the driver.”
