The Jalandhar Rural police on Tuesday arrested two youth in connection with a firing incident outside a house in Sohal Jagir village of Shahkot sub-division nine days ago.The accused were apprehended following an encounter with police, during which one sustained a gunshot injury. Both accused, Angrej Singh and Karanvir, are residents of Marhana village in Tarn Taran. Police recovered a .30 bore pistol, one live cartridge, an empty cartridge shell, and a bike reportedly used in the crime.SSP Harvinder Singh Virk said the incident occurred on January 11 at the residence of Sukhchain Singh. A case was registered at Shahkot Police Station under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25/27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.Acting on a tip-off, police teams set up a blockade. When the accused arrived on a motorcycle and were signalled to stop, they opened fire. Police retaliated; Karanvir sustained a bullet injury on his thigh and is under treatment, while Angrej Singh was apprehended on the spot. The SSP said the firing incident was part of a criminal conspiracy orchestrated from abroad. The main conspirator, Balwant Singh alias Banta, a resident of Sohal Jagir now in the US, allegedly contacted Charanjit Singh alias Channa in the Philippines, who then hired Angrej Singh and Karanvir to execute the attack.Extradition proceedings against the accused operating from abroad are being initiated through proper diplomatic channels, he added.
