Steadily sidelined in the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United), the former party heavyweight and its long-time Delhi face KC Tyagi quit the parent outfit on Tuesday. “Ideologically there is no place for me here now,” said the 75-year-old, one of the founder members of the JD (U). Tyagi has been with the party since October 30, 2003, when it was formed following the merger of Samata Party and Janata Dal. George Fernandes was president of the JD(U) and Tyagi was the general secretary upon its formation.Later under Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar as JD(U) presidents, Tyagi remained chief general secretary, chief spokesperson and political advisor of the party.Tyagi today said the JD(U) membership drive which was underway had ended today and he had not renewed its membership. “While I leave, my commitment to the larger and wider ideological points concerning the interests of the downtrodden and peasants, remains intact,” Tyagi said.The Tribune has learnt that he will join the Rashtriya Lok Dal in Delhi on March 22.
