Three workers lost their lives after a partially damaged house collapsed during repair work at Pharwahi village in Barnala district on Sunday morning. The house had reportedly developed structural damage after sewage water seeped into its walls, causing one side of the building to weaken and sink. The police said that the house owner Vishal had given repair work to lift and restore the structure to Ranjit, a contractor from Moga.Three labourers, Bobby Singh, Prince and Gurjit Singh– all reportedly residents of Moga — were reportedly sleeping in the house at the time of the incident. In the early hours, a damaged wall suddenly gave way, leading to the collapse of the house. All of them died on the spot after being trapped under the debris.Their bodies have been shifted to the Civil Hospital in Barnala for post-mortem.Inspector Jagjit Singh, SHO of Barnala Sadar police station, said, “We received a call around 4.15 am today and reached the spot. With the support of some locals, three workers trapped in the rubble were brought out and were declared dead. The village residents had earlier claimed that four workers were trapped, but the fourth worker had gone to his residence. He is also on his way here.”
