Suspecting that the examination paper for recruiting Group B officials in various departments of the Punjab Government had been leaked, the Subordinate Services Selection Board has asked the Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, to investigate the case.Around one lakh candidates had appeared for the recruitment examination, conducted by the board on December 21, 2025. The examination was held for over 400 posts in five categories of senior assistant, naib tehsildar, senior assistant-cum-inspector, treasury officer and district treasury officer. The results of the examination, conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, was declared on January 9.It is learnt that the board received a complaint that all five toppers in the examination were from Bathinda. Among the top 100 successful candidates, 22 were from Bathinda. Interestingly, among the toppers was a couple, two siblings and two cousins. One of the siblings got 117.50 marks out of 120, while the other secured 115 marks. Among the cousins, one secured 117.50 marks, while the other got 116.25 marks.A female candidate bagged the sixth position with 106.75 marks, while her husband was at the seventh position with 101.25 marks. It was alleged in the complaint that some of these candidates had not been able to crack the exam conducted earlier for recruiting patwaris and labour inspectors. This led to the suspicion that the examination paper had been leaked in Bathinda, where the question papers were in the custody of an officer of the Education Department.Sources said the board conducted a preliminary inquiry into the allegations made in the complaint before asking the VB to begin an investigation.
