An eight-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Gillan Ghakhla village near Sultanpur Lodhi. The victim, identified as Itwari, had accompanied his mother to deliver food to his father, who was working in a field. Family members said the child briefly went to a nearby field to relieve himself when he was suddenly surrounded and attacked by five stray dogs roaming in the area. The animals reportedly mauled him repeatedly, inflicting severe bite wounds across his body.Hearing his screams, the parents rushed to the spot and took him out of the dogs’ clutches. By then, the child had sustained deep injuries and had lost a significant amount of blood. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar, where he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss and the severity of the wounds. The grieving family, which hails from Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, had migrated to Punjab for seasonal agricultural work. The child’s parents, daily wage labourers engaged in potato field work, are now devastated by the tragic loss. Witnesses described scenes of anguish at the hospital as relatives struggled to come to terms with the incident. The incident has triggered anger among villagers who alleged that the authorities had failed to take preventive action despite earlier such incidents and warnings.
