Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on February 1 to rename the Adampur airport after Sant Guru Ravidas and virtually inaugurate the new terminal of the Halwara airport, combining infrastructure push with a major symbolic outreach to the influential Ravidas community ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections due early next year.Exclusive minute-to-minute programme details accessed by The Tribune show a tightly scripted visit centred around Adampur, Jalandhar and Dera Sachkhand Ballan, the spiritual headquarters of the Ravidas community.Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier urged the PM to name the Adampur airport after Guru Ravidas. In a post on X, Mann said as the PM would be landing at the Adampur airport on February 1, he humbly requested that the airport be named after Guru Ravidas, adding that he would convey heartfelt thanks on behalf of all Punjabis for the gesture.According to the official programme, the PM will depart from the Delhi airport at 2.30 pm and arrive at the Adampur airport at 3.35 pm by an Indian Air Force aircraft. He will proceed by road at 3.40 pm and reach the programme venue at 3.45 pm.Between 3.45 pm and 3.55 pm, the Prime Minister will unveil the plaque renaming the Adampur airport after Sant Guru Ravidas. During the same 10-minute window, he will also virtually inaugurate the new terminal of the Halwara airport, marking a key addition to Punjab’s civil aviation infrastructure. After leaving the venue at 3.55 pm, he will return to the Adampur airport by 4 pm and depart immediately by an Mi-17 helicopter. He is scheduled to arrive at the Jalandhar helipad at 4.20 pm and then proceed by road to Dera Sachkhand Ballan, reaching there at 4.30 pm.From 4.30 pm to 5.25 pm, the PM will attend a public function to mark the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj. Though officially categorised as a non-official engagement, the event holds deep religious and political significance given the dera’s stature and the reverence Guru Ravidas commands among Dalit communities, particularly in the Doaba region. At 5.25 pm, the PM will depart Dera Sachkhand Ballan by road, reach the Jalandhar helipad at 5.30 pm and take off immediately by helicopter. He will land back at the Adampur airport at 5.50 pm, before sunset at 6.02 pm, and depart for Delhi at 5.55 pm, reaching the national capital at 7 pm.The visit is being seen as politically significant in the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections. The Ravidas community constitutes a crucial vote bank in several districts of Punjab, especially in and around Jalandhar. Renaming a prominent airport after Guru Ravidas is expected to resonate strongly with the community, reinforcing the saint’s legacy of social equality and dignity. The outreach has been further underlined by the Centre’s decision to confer the Padma Shri this Republic Day on Sant Niranjan Das, the head of Dera Sachkhand Ballan. The honour, coming days before the PM’s visit, is widely viewed as part of a broader engagement with the dera and the Ravidas community at a sensitive political juncture. With a blend of religious symbolism, infrastructure announcements and carefully timed engagements, the PM’s February 1 Punjab visit is poised to send a clear political and social message well beyond its brief duration.Minute-by-minute programme2.30 pm: Departs Delhi airport by IAF aircraft3.35 pm: Arrives at Adampur airport3.40 pm: Departs Adampur airport by road3.45 pm: Arrives at programme venue3.45–3.55 pm: Unveiling of plaque renaming the Adampur airport after Sant Guru Ravidas, virtual inauguration of new terminal of the Halwara airport3.55 pm: Departs venue by road4.00 pm: Arrives at Adampur airport4.00 pm: Departs Adampur airport by Mi-17 helicopter4.20 pm: Arrives at Jalandhar helipad4.25 pm: Departs Jalandhar helipad by road4.30–5.25 pm: Public function at Dera Sachkhand Ballan on 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas5.25 pm: Departs venue by road5.30 pm: Arrives at the Jalandhar helipad and departs by helicopter5.50 pm: Arrives at the Adampur airport5.55 pm: Departs the Adampur airport for Delhi7.00 pm: Arrives at the Delhi airport
