Once the Union Budget for 2026-27 is presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, the Lok Sabha will take up a discussion on it between February 9 and 11.According to details finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Lok Sabha, it was decided to allot 18 hours of time to discuss the Union Budget, which will be taken up for discussion in the lower House from February 9 till February 10 and 11.Prior to this, the Lok Sabha will discuss the Motion of Thanks on President’s address from February 2 to February 3 and 4. A time slot of 18 hours has been allocated for the discussion on the Motion, it was decided in the meeting.President Droupadi Murmu had addressed both Houses of Parliament on the first day of the Budget session.Earlier, during an all-party meeting convened by the Government on January 27, on the eve of the session, the government had rejected the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and roll back of G RAM G law, saying that the law could not be rolled back as the Parliament had passed it.On the SIR, the Centre had conveyed to the Opposition that a discussion on electoral reforms had been conducted during the winter session of Parliament and that the exercise was already in full swing in several states.During the President’s address to both Houses of Parliament on January 28, the Opposition had raised slogans against SIR and also when she mentioned the G RAM G law in the course of her speech. The ruling BJP had flayed the Opposition for not maintaining the dignity attached to the President’s address.
