Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann’s grandson Govind Singh Sandhu on Monday appeared before Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, seeking apology over the use of a fly whisk at his wedding ceremony.A row had erupted after a video surfaced online, showing “Chaur Sahib” — a ceremonial whisk reserved for only Guru Granth Sahib — being waved over Sandhu.On Monday, he submitted a written apology.Accepting responsibility, Sandhu apologised to the Sikh community, termed the act an unintentional mistake and said such honour is reserved solely for the Guru Granth Sahib.SGPC forms panel over AI concernsThe Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Monday constituted a sub-committee, comprising artificial intelligence (AI) experts, to frame rules to prevent the misuse of sophisticated technology in misrepresenting Sikh institutions.Sikh body secretary Partap Singh said panel includes Dr Harjinder Singh Sandhu America, Harmeet Shah Singh UK, Dr Sarabjot Singh UK, Dr Sarpreet Singh from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Dr Gurpal Singh from Patiala’s Khalsa College Patiala, Dr Jagdeep Singh Malhi and Dr Satinderpal Singh from Guru Nanak Engineering College in Ludhiana. Karamveer Singh, system administrator of the SGPC, will be the coordinator of the committee.He said videos and other content that hurt Sikh sentiments through AI are continuously increasing on social media.The sub-committee will also work to establish relations with leading AI companies.
