In a chilling case reminiscent of Meghalaya’s infamous honeymoon murder, the Rajasthan Police have uncovered a conspiracy in which a newlywed woman allegedly orchestrated her husband’s murder with the help of her boyfriend and his accomplices, attempting to disguise it as a hit-and-run accident. The incident took place on the evening of January 30 in Sri Ganganagar district. Ashish and his wife Anju, married just three months earlier, were reportedly out for a walk when a vehicle hit them.Ashish died on the spot, while Anju was found unconscious and claimed she had been robbed of her gold jewellery, reports NDTV. Initially treated as a hit-and-run case, the matter took a dramatic turn following a detailed investigation.Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan said the police were alerted around 9 pm about a couple lying on the road. Ashish was declared dead at the Community Health Centre. While Anju told police that an unidentified vehicle had struck them, investigators soon noticed inconsistencies in her statement. The post-mortem report revealed that Ashish had strangulation marks and injuries inconsistent with a road accident. Anju, meanwhile, had no significant injuries. Call detail records further revealed that Anju was in regular contact with her former boyfriend, Sanju, who lived nearby.According to police, Anju was unhappy with the marriage and had returned to her hometown, where she reconnected with Sanju. Together, they allegedly planned Ashish’s murder. On the night of the crime, Anju reportedly led her husband to an isolated stretch of road where Sanju and two accomplices—Rocky alias Rohit and Badal alias Siddharth—were hiding. The attackers assaulted and strangled Ashish before attempting to stage the scene as an accident. To strengthen the robbery angle, Anju allegedly handed over her phone and earrings to the accused and pretended to be unconscious. However, forensic evidence and her changing statements exposed the plot. All four accused have been arrested. Police say the case bears striking similarities to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, where a newlywed woman conspired with her lover to kill her husband and make it appear accidental.
