A 67-year-old newspaper hawker was targeted by two masked snatchers in New Shimlapuri on Thursday early morning. The snatchers not only robbed him of his mobile phone and cash but also inflicted serious injuries on the victim. Leaving him in a pool of blood, the criminals fled on their motorcycle. The victim suffered serious internal injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at DMC Hospital, where he underwent surgery.The victim’s son, Akhil, said that his father, Vinod, was riding his scooter to Ghanta Ghar to pick up the newspaper as usual around 5.05 am. When he reached Shivpuri Chowk, two masked men on a motorcycle began chasing him. Sensing danger, his father took cover behind a passing trolley and ran ahead.According to Akhil, the same youths on the bike blocked his father’s path again near Tutiyan Wala Mandir in Daresi, a short distance away. Before Vinod could react, the accused pushed him and knocked him off his scooter. The robbers kicked his father and stabbed him with a sharp weapon, injuring him. When his father fell unconscious, the accused snatched approximately Rs 4,000 in cash and a mobile phone from his pocket and fled the scene.After the incident, the injured Vinod managed to inform his family through a passerby. His family immediately admitted him to DMC Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.“When I rushed to see my father, I was shocked to see him lying in a pool of blood. He had severe head injuries and internal injuries as well. We arranged a vehicle and took him to DMC Hospital for treatment, where a surgery was performed by doctors. I want justice for my father, and the accused should be put behind bars immediately,” informed the victim’s son.
