Almost a week after a court in Muktsar sent fugitive terrorist Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar’s father Shamsher Singh and mother Pritpal Kaur to judicial custody in connection with a 2024 extortion case, Shamsher has finally been lodged in Kapurthala jail.Both Shamsher and Pritpal were arrested on January 26 from Amritsar. They were initially sent to four days of police remand, which ended on January 30, after which they were remanded to judicial custody.While Pritpal was lodged in the Muktsar district jail the same day, the jail authorities reportedly refused to admit Shamsher, citing security concerns as members of Goldy’s rival Bambiha gang are already lodged there.It was then decided to shift Shamsher to Kapurthala jail. However, he developed cyst-related complications and was first taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, from where he was referred the next day to a private hospital in Bathinda. After being discharged on Wednesday, he was taken to Kapurthala jail, but the authorities there refused to admit him on medical grounds.He was then brought back to Bathinda on Thursday and taken to a government hospital and later to a private hospital, before being sent again to Kapurthala.Sources confirmed that Shamsher has now been lodged in Kapurthala jail.Notably, Sub-Inspector Darshan Singh, then SHO of Muktsar Sadar police station, whose team arrested the couple from Amritsar on January 26, has also suffered a cardiac attack and is currently on medical leave.On Shamsher’s frequent movement to Bathinda, Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana said, “Shamsher is currently in the custody of Kapurthala jail, and only the jail authorities can comment on the matter.”Notably, Shamsher Singh, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Muktsar police, was given compulsory retirement in 2021. The family owns a house in Muktsar town.
