In a decisive strike against organised crime and anti-social elements, the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police has significantly intensified ‘Operation Prahar 2.0’.Under the specialised guidelines of Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, the second day of the operation witnessed a large-scale mobilisation of force aimed at neutralising criminal elements and absconders.The operation was executed under high-level field supervision to ensure tactical precision. Dr S Boopathi, IGP (provisioning), Punjab, along with Swapan Sharma, Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, personally took part in the briefing and led a combing operation in the Salem Tabri area. The leadership emphasised a zero-tolerance policy towards organised crime and directed teams to act with maximum clinical efficiency.Sharma said 450 police personnel were deployed across the commissionerate in 20 specialised strike teams, each led by a gazetted officer. As many as 125 simultaneous raids were conducted across strategic hideouts and sensitive locations. The intensive crackdown resulted in the arrest of 82 individuals, comprising active gangsters, wanted criminals, and three proclaimed offenders (POs) on the second day of the operation.In addition to the arrests, the police teams successfully confiscated a significant cache of contraband, which comprised of 122 gm of heroin, two country made pistols, 17 mobile phones, seven two-wheelers, 5 gm of Ice drug and 6 boxes of liquor, he said.The CP reiterated that Operation Prahar 2.0 was a sustained campaign to ensure public safety and clean the city of criminal influence. He warned that the drive would be continued to target financial and logistical roots of the organised crime.Meanwhile, Punjabi singer Paramjit Kaur Pammi and her brother Sarwan Singh were nabbed by the Machhiwara police on drug trafficking charges during Operation Prahar 2.0. The police seized 8 gm of heroin from them and sent them to jail. During the pandemic, Pammi stopped singing and began drug trade. In 2023, when a Machhiwara youth died of drug overdose, she was arrested for supplying drugs. Later, she was released from jail and again got involved in the drug trade with her kin. In the past, many drug cases were filed against Pammi’s mother and sister.
