Over 12,000 AAP volunteers will go door to door in every village of the state ahead of the Assembly poll next year to spread the word about the state government works, including free universal health cover, fight against drugs and the strengthening of the public health and education sectors. The drive was launched on Tuesday.The volunteers, called village observers, were tutored by the party brass, including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, state party chief Aman Arora and AAP’s Punjab affairs incharge Manish Sisodia last evening on how to propagate the initiatives undertaken by the state government.According to sources, while party legislators and other AAP office-bearers in each constituency have been told to perform or be ready to be replaced, the volunteers have been told to help people in getting their health cards made for the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana.A source in the government claimed that the volunteers had been asked to concentrate on helping people avail the scheme after a recent survey conducted by the party “showed a positive response” to it.They have also been asked to publicise the Teerath Yatra Scheme of the AAP government. Ever since its launch last year, 20,400 people from different parts of the state have been taken on pilgrimages free of cost to Amritsar.With a new tent city in Anandpur Sahib expected to be ready by the month-end, pilgrims from villages, identified by their volunteers, will be taken there.As law and order has emerged as one of the biggest challenges, youth leaders, some of them appointed as pindan de pehredar, have been asked to report suspicious activities to local committees of the ruling party, who will then inform the police for action.In order to woo farmers, the ruling party has decided to hold dialogue with them, where their immediate concerns about the India-US free trade agreement will be addressed.
