Rajpal Yadav’s 9 crore debt case brings Bollywood stars together

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav arrested in connection with the 2010 cheque bounce case will continue to be in jail after hearing on his bail plea was adjourned by Delhi High court till February 16.Yadav had surrendered on February 5 following which he was sent to Tihar jail;. He had subsequently applied for a bail in the high court.While Yadav has denied any wrongdoing, many Bollywood actors have come in support of the jailed actor promising financial support. Actors like Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Sonu Sood, and politicians have come forward to help Yadav repay his loanYadav had borrowed Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to produce his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata, released in 2012.  The film, made on a budget of Rs 11 crore, managed to earn only Rs 38 lakh at the box office, proving to be a disaster.Initially set to release in October 2012, the Delhi High Court halted the film’s release due to a cheating case filed against Yadav by a local businessman named M.G. Agarwal. Agarwal alleged that Yadav had signed a contract with M/s Murali Projects and took a loan of Rs 5 crore to finance the film.As per the contract, Yadav was supposed to work with Agarwal’s company for the music and production of the film but, the ‘Dhol’ actor allegedly went forward with releasing the album of the film independently. Moreover, all the cheques given to Agarwal were bounced.The Delhi High Court had granted Yadav multiple extensions to repay the loan, but the actor failed to do so within the given period of time.The Delhi High Court issued an ultimatum to the actor on February 2 this year to surrender before the authorities, responding to which his senior counsel filed a ‘mercy plea’ that was rejected by the court.On February 5, Yadav finally surrendered at the Tihar Jail shocking his fans, colleagues and the nation. While surrendering to the authorities, the ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ actor said that he feels absolutely helpless for not being able to pay the amount and that he can’t see any way out. He also said that he did not get much support from his industry colleagues. “Everyone is on their own,” the actor added.Soon after the news broke out, actor Sonu Sood tweeted about helping Rajpal Yadav by offering him a role in his film and making an advanced payment for the same. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors,…— sonu sood (@SonuSood) February 10, 2026Following Sonu Sood’s initiative, music producer and owner of GemTunes Music Rao Inderjeet Singh of Rs 1.11 crore, singer Mika Singh extended his support by pledging to pay Rs 11 lakh to the actor.Rajpal Yadav’s manager Goldie has confirmed in the media that many celebrities like Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Gurmeet Chaoudhary, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Varun Dhawan and Guru Randhawa have called him and stepped forward to help the actor.Apart from industry professionals, many politicians have stepped forward to support Yadav. The national president of Jan Shakti Janata Dal, Tej Pratap Singh took to X and wrote that his party stands in solidarity with Yadav’s family in the difficult times. As a form of human compassion, Singh extended a sum of Rs 11 lakh to Yadav.The CEO of ‘Yes Madam’, Mayank Arya, took to his social media and reposted Sonu Sood’s tweet. Responding to Sood’s tweet, Arya shared that the brand would sign Yadav for their upcoming advertisement film. He further requested other brands to collaborate with the actor for their ad campaigns.Seconded @SonuSood.
