Saketh Sreenivasaiah, an Indian student from Karnataka, studying for his post-graduate degree at UC Berkeley in the US, has gone missing.Sreenivasaiah has been missing since Monday.The Consulate General of India in San Francisco on social media platform X shared, it was in touch with Saketh’s family and was also working with local authorities in the US to find him.This is not the first time Indian students have faced problems in in the US.In the past, too, some students have complained about discrimination, racist attacks, and lack of proper response from authorities.In Parliament, MP Asaduddin Owaisi asked about the safety of Indian students studying in other countries. In response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the government gives high priority to the safety and security of Indian students abroad. It said that whenever there are incidents of violence or trouble, Indian embassies and consulates immediately take up the matter with the local authorities to ensure proper investigation and action.The MEA also said that Indian missions stay in regular contact with students and conduct orientation sessions to inform them about possible risks and precautions. Students are encouraged to stay connected with Indian missions through the MADAD portal, WhatsApp groups, consular camps, open houses, and emergency helplines.The government added that in countries facing political or economic problems, Indian missions stay especially alert. They provide help such as medical support, temporary accommodation and other essential services when needed. The government said these efforts show its strong commitment to protecting Indian students abroad and ensuring their safety.With ANI inputs
