A prison guard has been charged after allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a prisoner at one of Scotland’s most notorious jails.Police Scotland said the 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with “wilful neglect of duty” at HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow.

A force spokesperson added: “She’s due to appear in court at a later date.”

The near 144-year-old HMP Barlinnie – known as The Big Hoose and Bar-L – is due to be replaced by HMP Glasgow.However, the £1bn development is not expected to open until 2028.
