Acting on a specific intelligence input, officials of the Excise and Taxation Department busted a major racket involved in refilling premium liquor bottles with cheaper Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) brands in Ludhiana on Tuesday evening.The raid was carried out by Excise Inspectors Amandeep Singh, Navdeep Singh and Amit Goyal, along with Excise Police staff and personnel from Police Station Moti Nagar.During the operation, a man identified as Lovelesh Verma, son of Rajesh Kumar Verma, was apprehended in the parking area of Hotel Regal Blu on Chandigarh Road.He was allegedly caught in the act of refilling branded liquor bottles with low-cost liquor for resale.During interrogation, the accused disclosed that more empty bottles meant for refilling were stored at his residence in the Civil Lines area, Kundan Puri.Acting on this information, officials conducted a follow-up raid at his house, leading to the recovery of a large number of empty bottles of premium brands, bottles of cheaper liquor, and caps used for resealing.Officials said the racket involved collecting empty bottles of reputed brands, refilling them with inferior liquor, and resealing them for illegal sale in the market.Further investigation is underway to ascertain the scale of the operation and identify other persons involved in the racket.
