In the wake of the robot dog controversy at the India AI Summit, Galgotias University has been asked to vacate its exhibition space, said sources in the government, even as no official announcement has been made. The development follows a backlash over the university’s showcase of a quadruped robot that had emerged as a major crowd-puller at the summit venue. Videos of the four-legged machine seen greeting visitors and performing mobility demonstrations went viral on social media, drawing eyeballs as one of the event’s showstopper exhibits. The narrative, however, quickly turned contentious after tech observers alleged that the robot was a commercially available unit developed by Chinese robotics firm Unitree, and not an indigenous innovation. Online posts and tech enthusiasts accused the university of presenting the machine as its own technological achievement, triggering a row over ownership and attribution claims.Amid the escalating criticism, Galgotias University on Tuesday issued a clarification denying any misrepresentation. It said it had never claimed to have built the robot dog and had clearly identified it as a Chinese machine.
