The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted bail to two farmer-activists Shagandeep Singh Jeond and Baldev Singh Chauke. The order by Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj is significant as the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) had announced an indefinite protest outside Bathinda district administrative complex, seeking their release. In one of the petitions filed through counsel Harchand Singh Batth contended that totally false story had been projected by the prosecution. As per the prosecution story, the complainant in the case — DSP (R) Bathinda — had alleged that police and revenue officials had gone to conduct the demarcation of Jeond village in compliance with the order passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a writ and a contempt petition. It was alleged that the accused blocked the road with tractor trolley and caused injuries to the complainant and his gunman with a stick. An FIR in the matter was registered on January 20, 2025.Countering the allegations, Batth contended specific role or injury had not been attributed to the petitioner and he had been falsely implicated in the case. “No such occurrence as alleged has ever taken place… The petitioner has been nominated in the present case just being the member of the Kisan Union,” it was added.Batth contended that the petitioner was in custody since April 5, 2025. The police had completed the investigation and the challan has been presented before a judicial magistrate. The petitioner filed a bail application before the Court of Sessions, Bathinda. But the plea was dismissed.
