India on Friday entered the United States-led strategic technology alliance ‘Pax Silica’ and simultaneously signed a bilateral ‘India-US AI Opportunity Partnership’, deepening cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and the supply chain of critical minerals. The agreements were concluded on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, marking a significant expansion of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership into the core architecture of next-generation computing and digital infrastructure. The documents were signed by Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan, US Ambassador Sergio Gor and US Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and White House technology adviser Michael Kratsios.Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said cooperation under Pax Silica would strengthen supply chains and deepen engagement in critical technologies between the two countries.Gor described India’s participation as strategic, citing its engineering talent, expanding manufacturing base and growing role in critical mineral processing. Helberg said partner nations were building a new technology architecture aimed at widening access to advanced computing and artificial intelligence.Pax Silica seeks to secure resilient supply chains for technologies central to the AI era, particularly semiconductors and critical minerals, covering the full stack — from raw material and fabrication to advanced computing systems.According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the accompanying AI Opportunity Partnership focuses on pro-innovation regulation, joint research and development, industry investments in next-generation data centres, expanded access to advanced processors and acceleration of AI applications and startups.India’s inclusion comes months after it was left out of the initial grouping of key technology partners and reflects Washington’s recognition of New Delhi’s growing role in semiconductor design talent and electronics manufacturing ambitions as countries seek trusted supply chains in strategic technologies.Officials said the move places India within an emerging network shaping global standards in advanced computing and digital infrastructure while reinforcing bilateral cooperation in critical and emerging technologies.About Pax Silica* Pax Silica was launched in December to build a secure, resilient and innovation-driven supply chain for critical minerals and AI* A summit was held in Washington on December 12 where partner nations signed the Pax Silica declaration* The pact brings together advanced economies to coordinate investments, protect sensitive technologies
