Rajya Sabha MP Dr Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Friday handed over keys of rebuilt homes to flood-affected families of Chakaul in Ajnala, marking six months of sustained rehabilitation work undertaken by his NGO, Sun Foundation, after the 2025 floods.Notably, Dr Sahney chose to spend his birthday with flood-affected families in the adopted village, reaffirming his continued commitment to their rehabilitation.Later, residents of several villages of Ramdas, Ajnala and Dera Baba Nanak honoured Dr Sahney for his extensive relief and rehabilitation work carried out through the Sun Foundation.Volunteers of Sun Foundation had carried out rescue and relief operations in 50 villages, gave ration and hygiene support to over 20,000 households, restored 1,500 acres through desilting and dewatering, supplied fodder for livestock, provided medical assistance through mobile units and offered rehabilitation kits to thousands of families.Dr Sahney said he had adopted Chakaul village soon after the disaster, providing immediate relief kits and essential household items such as furniture, beds, utensils, etc. to around 150 affected households, along with seeds, fertilisers and fodder support to farmers.The MP recalled that he had also celebrated Diwali last year with flood-affected families during the recovery phase. Under the housing rehabilitation initiative, 27 damaged homes in the village have now been repaired and rebuilt, thus providing shelter to vulnerable families.
