The SGPC executive, led by president Harjinder Singh Dhami, relieved Golden Temple’s head granthi Giani Raghbir Singh, former jathedar of the Akal Takht, from services with immediate effect during a special meeting held at its headquarters on Thursday. The Sikh body called the special meeting after Giani Raghbir Singh failed to submit written evidence to support his corruption allegations against SGPC and SAD, which he had made while addressing mediapersons in Jalandhar on February 18.Dhami confirmed the action, saying many serious allegations had been made against Giani Raghbir Singh and the executive had made the decision after thorough deliberations. He stated that SGPC had not received any satisfactory response or evidence from Singh even after the ultimatum had lapsed. He added that Singh’s actions had damaged the reputation of the apex Sikh body and showed disregard for rules.SGPC had served an ultimatum on Giani Raghbir Singh on February 19, a day after he had made corruption allegations against SGPC and questioned transparency in land deals. Singh had responded with a counter-ultimatum on February 22, seeking a reply to his corruption allegations against the panel.
