Lionel Messi scored twice as Inter Miami came from two goals down to beat Orlando City 4-2 in a Major League Soccer Florida derby at the Inter&Co Stadium on Sunday.Miami were under pressure early after Marco Pasalic and Martin Ojeda scored inside the opening 25 minutes to give Orlando a 2-0 lead. The hosts looked in control before halftime. The momentum changed soon after the break when Mateo Silvetti pulled one back with a long-range strike. From that moment, the game shifted in Miami’s favour and Messi began to take control. The Argentine equalised in the 57th minute with a composed left-footed finish from the edge of the area, registering his first league goal of the 2026 season. With Orlando dropping deeper, Messi dictated play and created space in the final third. In the 85th minute, he set up Telasco Segovia, who scored to complete the comeback. Orlando’s problems worsened in stoppage time when Colin Guske was sent off for a second yellow card after fouling Messi near the box.Messi then stepped up and converted the free-kick in the 90th minute to seal the victory. It was his 70th career goal from a direct free-kick, drawing him level with Pele and moving him joint-second on the all-time list, behind only Juninho (77 free-kick goals).“He’s the best player to ever play this sport. He’s a leader, and as a leader, he inspires others, but he also often needs to be inspired himself,” said Miami coach Javier Mascherano.“He has the ability to create chances like no-one else, and that’s what allowed us to turn the game around.”The brace took Messi’s career tally to 898 goals for club and country, including 79 in 90 appearances for Miami. He now trails Cristiano Ronaldo by 67 goals in the all-time scoring race. The win was Miami’s first in nine trips to Orlando, and they next travel to face DC United on Saturday.
