At least 278 flights scheduled to be operated on Friday by Indian domestic carriers to and from destinations in West Asia were cancelled amid ongoing developments in the region and restrictions on key airspace routes, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.According to officials, a total of 96 flight operations were conducted by Indian carriers to and from various destinations across West Asia. However, the evolving situation and resulting airspace restrictions forced airlines to cancel hundreds of services as a precautionary measure. The disruption comes as several airlines continue to adjust flight paths and schedules due to limited access to parts of West Asian airspace. Aviation authorities said the restrictions have affected multiple sectors and airlines were constantly reviewing operations while prioritising passenger safety.Passengers have been advised to keep a close watch on the latest flight updates and remain attentive to communication shared by their respective airlines through registered contact details. Airlines are issuing regular alerts regarding cancellations, rescheduling and alternate arrangements for affected travellers. To assist passengers during the disruption, MoCA officials said its Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) was functioning round the clock and coordinating closely with airlines and other stakeholders.Officials said so far 1,881 passenger grievances had been addressed through the AirSewa platform, social media channels and helpline calls. The assistance includes information on refunds, rescheduling and other travel-related queries raised by passengers affected by the cancellations.Meanwhile, some international carriers have begun cautiously restoring services as the situation shows signs of stabilisation. Air Arabia has resumed operating a limited number of flights to and from the United Arab Emirates.Dubai-based Emirates also indicated that it expected to restore 100 per cent of its network operations within the coming days, subject to airspace availability and fulfilment of operational requirements. The airline said it carried approximately 30,000 passengers out of Dubai on Thursday as flight operations gradually resumed after the disruption.
