The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will present its annual budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on March 28.The decision was taken at a meeting of the SGPC executive committee on Friday. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami. The committee accepted the recommendations of the budget sub-committee.Dhami said the Dharam Parchar Committee would receive up to 50 per cent of the total allocation. The committee also extended support to the agitation being led by Gurjit Singh in Samana demanding a stringent law to deal with sacrilege cases. The committee also passed a resolution condemning the alleged removal of a Sikh girl’s turban and “kirpan” during a Public Service Commission examination in Madhya Pradesh.Akal Takht releases Nanakshahi calendarThe Nanakshahi calendar for Samvat 558 (2026-27) was released by acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj and Dhami. The calendar has been dedicated to the 650th birth anniversary of Bhagat Ravidas and the 400th foundation anniversary of Kiratpur Sahib. Gargaj appealed to Sikhs to begin the New Year with Gurmat samagams in gurdwaras from the first day of Chet.
