Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday promised to develop Bathinda district as an industrial hub if voted to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.Addressing a rally under his party’s “Punjab Bachao” campaign, he also vowed to set up a skill university on forming the governemnt in the state.“After coming to power in 2027, the SAD government will establish an industrial hub around Bathinda. This will boost the regional economy and generate employment opportunities for the youth,” he said.Sukhbir said the skill university would be established on 300 acres to train around one lakh youth every year. Calling Bhucho constituency his maternal home, he tried to strike an emotional chord with the gathering.Commenting on the Cabinet decisions taken by the AAP government, Sukhbir said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was trying to mislead people by announcing the establishment of a medical college in New Chandigarh.He said his father and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had established the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre there.Sukhbir alleged that the AAP government failed to fulfil its promise of establishing medical colleges in every district. “Even the promised medical college in Sangrur has not progressed beyond the foundation stone stage,” he said.Referring to the AAP government’s plan to provide Rs 1,000 per month to women, he demanded that the beneficiaries be given Rs 48,000 each to compensate for the delay of the past four years. Earlier, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, while addressing the gathering, referred to what she termed “officers’ atankwad” while speaking about GST officials.She alleged that traders were being harassed by officials. She also raised several demands related to the Bhucho constituency.
