As women across the world celebrate International Women’s Day, Ludhiana’s Sameera Aulakh has added another feather to her cap by completing the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors, securing all six stars and earning the coveted medal after participating in marathons held in six cities — London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, Boston and most recently Tokyo.Sharing her experience on Women’s Day, Sameera said that the sky is the limit for women. A fashion designer by profession, an ultra-cyclist, an amateur runner and a mother of three teenagers, she said her endurance journey began with long-distance cycling. She completed 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 600 km brevet rides, earning the prestigious title of Super Randonneur from the Audax Club Parisien (ACP).In December 2020, Sameera accomplished her dream ultra-ride, G2G (Gate to Gate), cycling from India Gate in New Delhi to the Gateway of India in Mumbai. She covered 1,460 km in five nights and six days, riding nearly 280 km every day.“After taking a year-long sabbatical from cycling, I discovered running in 2021, which soon became a deep passion,” she said. Sameera went on to win gold medals at the Tuffman Goa Beach Half Marathon (December 2021) and the Tuffman Kasauli Hills Half Marathon (April 2022).She also participated in the Ludhiana 10K Relan Run (November 2022) and the Tata Mumbai Marathon (January 2023).Her journey in the World Marathon Majors includes: Berlin (September 2023), London (April 21, 2024), Chicago (October 13, 2024), New York (November 3, 2024), Boston (April 21, 2025) and Tokyo (March 1, 2026).Sameera added that it was a proud moment for her to be the only participant from Punjab in the Tokyo Marathon. Having returned to the city after achieving this feat, she said women possess immense strength and can achieve their dreams with commitment and strong family support.“This journey, for me, is not just about medals or miles — it’s about resilience, balance and choosing to show up every single day,” she said.
