In a move that could signal the rise of a new generation in Bihar politics, Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, formally joined the Janata Dal (United) on Sunday at the party’s office in Patna.After joining the party, Nishant Kumar thanked party leaders and workers for placing their trust in him and said he would work as an active member to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.“As a party worker, I will try to strengthen the party organisation. Whatever my father has done in the last 20 years, I will try to take that message to every person and earn a place in the hearts of people,” he said.Expressing pride in his father’s achievements, Nishant said that the work done by his father during the past two decades would always be remembered. “I am proud of what my father has achieved in these 20 years. The people of Bihar as well as the entire country are proud of him,” Nishant said.Commenting on Nitish’s decision to move to the Rajya Sabha, Nishant said the decision of his father to go to the Upper House was a personal one. “My father has decided to go to the Rajya Sabha. It is his personal decision, and I accept and respect it. All of us will work under his guidance,” he said.Meanwhile, Nishant Kumar said he would strive to live up to the confidence shown in him by the party. “The trust that the party has placed in me, I will try my best to live up to it,” he said.On March 5, Nitish Kumar filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and other JD(U) leaders.
