A case has been registered following the detection of allegedly fake fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) amounting to Rs 116.84 crore during the transfer of funds from Chandigarh Smart City Limited to the Municipal Corporation (MC) Chandigarh.According to officials, the MC had received a complaint stating that while transferring funds from Chandigarh Smart City Limited to the civic body, a dedicated bank account was opened at IDFC FIRST Bank for the purpose. In connection with this account, several fixed deposit receipts were reportedly issued by a bank manager.However, during subsequent verification, the FDRs were found to be fake. The total value of the fraudulent deposits is stated to be Rs 116.84 crore.Following the discovery, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 61(2) and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Officials said the role of bank personnel as well as employees of the MC is currently under investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances under which the account was opened and the FDRs were issued.Further investigation is underway to determine how the alleged fraud occurred and whether additional individuals were involved in the case.
