The United States and India are nearing the conclusion of a key agreement on critical minerals aimed at strengthening supply chains for advanced technologies, with a major announcement expected in the coming months, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Friday.Speaking at an event of a private TV news channel in New Delhi, Gor said discussions between Washington and New Delhi had made substantial progress and both governments were working towards finalising the arrangement soon. The proposed pact is expected to enhance cooperation in securing supplies of critical minerals — materials essential for sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and advanced defence technologies.Officials say both countries are seeking to build more resilient supply chains and reduce vulnerabilities linked to highly concentrated global sources of rare earths and strategic minerals.Gor said the upcoming agreement would reflect the growing strategic convergence between the two countries and their shared interest in strengthening technology and manufacturing ecosystems. The development comes amid expanding cooperation between the two sides across emerging technology sectors. Washington has also been pushing initiatives such as PaxSilica, a US-led effort to create secure supply chains for silicon, semiconductors and related technologies built around critical mineral resources.India and the US have increasingly prioritised collaboration in areas such as technology, energy, defence and supply-chain resilience as part of their broader strategic partnership, which both governments describe as central to economic and security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
