Twelve grassroots Congress workers in Assam have written to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, alleging that senior party leaders Jitendra Singh Alwar and Prithviraj Sathe demanded money worth crores in exchange for allocating the party ticket for the Srijangram Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).In a memorandum addressed to Priyanka Gandhi, who is heading the candidates’ scrutiny process, the workers questioned the selection of Nurul Islam as the Congress candidate for the upcoming Assam Assembly election, claiming the decision was influenced by money rather than merit.The letter, signed by 12 grassroots workers and supporters from the constituency, sought her intervention in what they described as alleged irregularities in the candidate selection process.“Complain regarding alleged irregularities in the selection of candidate for Srijangram LAC for the upcoming Assam Assembly Election,” the letter read.The workers alleged that during the recent visit of party leaders to the constituency, discussions around the ticket involved financial considerations.“It has come to the knowledge of the grassroots workers of the party that two high-profile leaders of AICC, namely Jitendra Singh and Prithiraj Sathe, who have been entrusted with a visit role in the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly Election, have allegedly collected a huge amount of money from under qualified candidate namely Nurul Islam,” the memorandum said.According to the complainants, Islam was selected despite lacking political standing in the constituency. They alleged that the candidate had “strong money power” and that this had influenced the decision. The workers urged Priyanka Gandhi to examine the issue and take corrective steps.
