The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Committee on Agriculture and Allied Activities has recommended immediate implementation of the agriculture policy to improve the economic condition of farmers and farm labourers.The committee’s report for 2025-26, headed by Sardulgarh MLA Gurpreet Singh Banawali, was presented in the Assembly recently.The panel also recommended that agricultural motors in rural areas be shifted to solar power and urged the government to take legal recourse in the National Green Tribunal to allow new tubewell connections in blocks currently not categorised as dark zones.It suggested that in cases of theft of motors, transformers, wires and other equipment from farmers’ fields, the government should bear the cost of replacement. To promote organic farming, the panel proposed the establishment of organic food markets at block and district levels for the sale of organic vegetables.
