With the growing global influence of Indian cinema – and OTT films, we all did expect at least one film to be nominated from our country. However, none made it to the final cut. Oscars 2026 had high competitive films which had strong festival runs and global attention.Visibility in the US: Does this mean that ‘Homebound’ wasn’t appreciated globally? No. Films that receive visibility and attention in the United States, usually make it to the Oscars. However, In December 2025, it was one of the 15 films shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film award.Expensive Oscars campaigns: Films that make it to the Oscars have extensive and very expensive promotional campaigns. It takes a lot of grit to reach there, and even harder if you’re from outside of the United States.
