Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna alleged that the Punjab Government had spent crores of rupees from the state exchequer on the Maghi conference, calling it an example of “wasteful expenditure” at a time when the state was facing serious financial challenges.Addressing mediapersons after a meeting of party leaders and workers at Haripur village regarding the proposed “Punjab Bachao Rally” to be held in Amloh on March 25, Khanna claimed that details obtained through an RTI revealed that around Rs 3.87 crore were spent on the state-level Maghi event.He alleged that the government had spent heavily on hospitality and arrangements for the programme. According to the figures cited by him, nearly Rs 7.5 lakh were spent on 300 VVIP plates at Rs 2,500 per plate, while around Rs 12 lakh were spent on 800 VIP plates at Rs 1,500 per plate. In addition, about Rs 40 lakh were reportedly spent on food arrangements for nearly 40,000 attendees.He further alleged that around Rs 1.5 crore were spent on pandal, stage and lighting arrangements, Rs 7.91 lakh on LED screens, Rs 2.5 lakh on the sound system and about Rs 4 lakh on computer setup, while lakhs more were spent on generators, road cleaning and other arrangements..
