Air India plans to operate a special flight to Shannon on Wednesday to bring stranded passengers to Delhi after their flight was diverted to the Irish town following a technical issue with the aircraft.On Monday, the airline’s A350 aircraft flying from New York to Delhi was diverted to Shannon due to a technical issue. Later, the plane was grounded at the Irish town.An official on Tuesday said the airline plans to operate the special flight on Wednesday, most likely from Zurich, to ferry the stranded passengers from Shannon to Delhi.The aircraft was diverted to the Irish town after it was airborne for nearly six hours.”Flight AI102, operating from New York (JFK) to Delhi on 15 March, made a precautionary diversion to Shannon, Ireland, following a suspected technical issue. Consistent with Air India’s high safety standards, the aircraft is currently subject to extensive technical evaluations, which will require extra time to complete,” the airline said in a statement on Monday.Sources on Monday said the aircraft experienced vibrations and noise, following which it was diverted to Shannon.The aircraft was inducted into the Air India fleet in April 2024.
