A recent weather alert has warned that the next 6–8 hours are critical, as an intense trough line from a Western Disturbance is passing close to the region. This system is expected to bring moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall across states such as Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh until the afternoon, with conditions improving by evening. Meanwhile, rainfall activity is forecast to increase over eastern states like Bihar and Jharkhand as the system moves eastward, wrote Dr Pradeep on Friday morning who describes himself as a climate scientist on X.The widespread showers and thunderstorms have made it feel like a “mini monsoon” in North India. Western Disturbances—weather systems originating in the Mediterranean region—are known to bring winter rain and occasional storms to the Indian subcontinent, but such intense activity in March has caught public attention.Amid these developments, social media has also been flooded with viral claims suggesting that artificial rain or weather manipulation, allegedly linked to Bill Gates, is responsible for the current conditions. These claims, however, are unverified and misleading.At the center of the confusion is cloud seeding, a real scientific technique that involves dispersing substances like silver iodide or salt into clouds to encourage rainfall. While used in several countries to enhance precipitation in drought-prone areas, cloud seeding has limited effectiveness and depends entirely on existing weather conditions. It cannot create storms or control large-scale weather systems.Experts emphasise that there is no credible evidence linking any individual to weather control.
