Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Sunil Jakhar on Friday said the Narendra Modi government has restored a special grant for border districts, even though the AAP government in Punjab had failed to utilise the grant and the funds had lapsed.Under the grant, Punjab would receive Rs 814 crore. A major portion of this amount was to be used in border districts, for which 64 roads and 38 new bridges were to be constructed, covering a total length of 628.48 kilometers. He specifically thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for restoring the grant, keeping in mind the larger interests of Punjab despite the state government’s slow performance.Sunil Jakhar said, “The central grant, which had lapsed because the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab failed to utilize the funds on time, has now been restored by the Government of India.”He explained that this grant was meant to be utilized by last year, and the central government had directed that the work be initiated before March 31, 2025.The BJP leader said this reflects the reality of the AAP government in Punjab, which on one hand fails to utilise central grants on time, and on the other hand, the Chief Minister continues to spread misinformation and false narratives against the central government for political gains. He reiterated that the central government has been consistently supporting Punjab in every sector and has also provided significant assistance for irrigation projects. However, the Chief Minister is presenting works done using central funds, such as laying canals and underground pipelines, as his personal achievements. Sunil Jakhar further said that after the restoration of this grant, neither Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann nor any of his ministers even thanked the central government.Instead, efforts were made to keep this information from the public so that people would not know that despite the state government’s inefficiency, the Centre had once again released Rs 814 crore for Punjab.
