A 26-year-old babysitter, Neha Dhamija, was arrested by the police along with her three accomplices for stealing gold ornaments weighing 370 g and Rs 1.5 lakh cash from a house in Mohali’s Sector 77 during a marriage celebration on February 14.Purshottam Vashishth, a resident of Sunam, stated in his police complaint that his family, along with the nanny, had come from Sunam to Mohali to attend the marriage of their niece. They had brought a briefcase with ornaments as a gift for the bride. The briefcase was stolen from the house of his sister, where the family was staying, on the night of February 14. A theft case was registered against unknown persons at the Sohana police station. After days of investigation, the police arrested Moga residents Balkar Singh, alias Bobby (21), Jaskaran Singh (26), Pritpal Singh (19), and Neha Dhamija (26). Neha was employed as a babysitter in the house for the past four to five months and had knowledge of the place where the jewellery and cash were kept.“Neha, who is a Class 12 passout and married, planned the theft along with her accomplices and waited for the opportune time. She also travelled with the family to Amritsar for the ceremony but waited for the right time. She used WhatsApp calls to keep in touch with her gang, instead of standard calls. The gang members also did not use mobile phones and left their phones in Moga as they moved to Mohali to commit the crime. To execute the crime, the gang had bought a pistol and live rounds from Madhya Pradesh,” said Mohali City-2 DSP Harsimran Singh Bal.While fleeing, the gang dumped their clothes and belongings in the Neelon canal near Ludhiana. They bought furniture, electronics, and a used car with the money. The police arrested the babysitter and two of her accomplices while they were vacationing at Mcleodganj in Dharamsala. One accused was arrested from Ludhiana the same day. All the suspects are being questioned in police remand. A pistol, two live rounds, and the car have been recovered from them. The police said all the accused are Class 10 or Class 12 passouts. Jaskaran is married, and Pritpal has an NDPS Act case registered against him at the Bagha Purana police station.
