In a major escalation of the political crisis triggered by the alleged suicide of Punjab Warehousing Corporation District Manager Dr Gagandeep Randhawa, Opposition parties on Saturday jointly announced a gherao of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s official residence in Chandigarh on Sunday.Related news: AAP Punjab minister Laljit Bhullar resigns amid Amritsar warehousing official’s deathPunjab minister row: Wife alleges ‘obey or consume poison’ threat in warehousing official death caseBJP state president Sunil Jakhar confirmed this to The Tribune over the phone from Ranjit Avenue police station in Amritsar, where Opposition leaders, including Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, had been camping since evening, demanding registration of a case against former Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. Jakhar said all leaders present had agreed to the gherao.The leaders gathered at the police station after Bhullar’s resignation, accepted by CM Mann earlier in the day, failed to satisfy the Opposition, which is demanding his arrest and a CBI probe. Jakhar said Mann had no moral basis to remain in power, alleging that earlier people in Punjab were losing their lives due to gangster rule, but now even government officials were being forced to take their own lives due to alleged demands of ministers.
