Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann claimed on Saturday that the state faces no law and order issues, citing fresh industrial investments as proof. He cited 1,105 gang busts, 2,858 gangsters’ arrest, encounter of 35 criminals and seizure of thousands of kilograms of drugs to drive home his point.Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mann flanked by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, said Punjab Police had intercepted 806 drones and detected 1,472 drone movements along the border with Pakistan, all while waiting for funds from the Centre that never came. The state deployed its own anti-drone system after the Centre withheld aid. From these drones, officers recovered 341 illegal weapons. Mann declared Punjab Police worthy of the title “India Police” for protecting the nation’s unity, integrity and sovereignty. On police reforms, Mann contrasted his government’s steady recruitment with past regimes’ election-timed hires. Over four years, 12,197 posts were filled. Recruitment for 1,746 constables (2025) is underway, while ads for 3,298 more (2026) opened on March 10, drawing applications. On organised crime, Mann said the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), since its formation four years ago, had arrested 2,858 gangsters and criminals and busted 1,105 gangs and modules — an average of roughly 715 arrests and 276 gangs busted every year. The force also recovered 2,267 weapons and 655 vehicles used in crimes, and cracked 38 sensational cases including murder cases, extortion rackets, bank robberies and terror-linked conspiracies. On drugs, the CM said 95,881 smugglers and suppliers had been arrested and 71,228 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act since March 2022 — translating to roughly 65 arrests and 49 FIRs every single day. Recoveries included 5,625 kg of heroin, 3,461 kg of opium, 1,628 quintals of poppy husk and nearly five crore drug tablets, injections and syrups. Properties worth Rs 772 crore have been attached from 1,556 smugglers, averaging nearly Rs 50 lakh seized per smuggler. To prove Punjab’s safety, Mann pointed to investments as the true gauge. A Rs 3,200-crore steel plant has launched and global firms are queuing up. “Leading companies are rushing to invest here,” he said.Modernisation efforts include 2,904 vehicles bought for ₹327.69 crore (2,258 four-wheelers, 646 two-wheelers). The Sadak Surakhya Force, India’s first highway safety unit launched in January 2024, patrols over 5,500 km and cut fatalities by 48%. From February 2024 to January 2026, it aided 47,386 victims in 43,983 accidents, gave on-site help to 19,973, and rushed 27,413 injured to hospitals. He further stated, “To modernise the police force, 2,904 vehicles have been purchased at a cost of ₹327.69 crore, including 2,258 four-wheelers and 646 two-wheelers. The Sadak Surakhya Force covers more than 5,500 km of highways and reducing fatalities by 48%.”He added, “From February 2024 to January 2026, it aided 47,386 victims in 43,983 accidents, gave on-site help to 19,973, and rushed 27,413 injured to hospitals.”
