Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has asserted that his government took decisive action against former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and there was no need for a CBI probe as the Punjab Police were capable of carrying out the investigation.Mann was reacting to a statement by Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament yesterday, wherein he promised a CBI probe into the case of suicide by an officer, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, allegedly abetted by former minister Bhullar.Mann said the investigation by the Punjab Police was being done in an impartial and fair manner. “AAP-governed Punjab is probably the only state in the country where a minister has been arrested,” he said.“Was a CBI investigation ordered into the case of an ADGP of Haryana, who committed suicide in Chandigarh? They (Haryana Government) just transferred the DGP. Or was a CBI investigation ordered into the case where a man set himself ablaze in Patiala, naming Capt Amarinder Singh and BIS Chahal? In 2021, a man and his daughter committed suicide naming Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. A man named Sunil Kumar died, taking the name of Amit Shah. No CBI inquiry was ever ordered in any of these cases nor was any resignation taken,” he said, lambasting opposition leaders for attempting to politicise the death of the district manager, which Mann termed unfortunate and a big loss for the officer’s family.“As Chief Minister, I have acted responsibly — seeking the minister’s resignation, getting an FIR registered against him and getting him arrested, besides ordering an inquiry into the episode by a committee headed by the Chief Secretary. Whosoever is found guilty in the inquiry, irrespective of the position, will be punished. There will be no leniency for the culprits or conspirators,” he said.Mann said the law and order situation in the state was under control…“only opposition leaders are out of control.” The CM said while his sympathies were with the bereaved family, “… look at what the Opposition is doing. Raja, Bajwa, Jakhar and Majithia have all joined hands against me. They are unnecessarily politicising the issue,” he said.
