The Haryana Education Department has issued strict directions prohibiting students and staff from creating social media reels inside school premises during school hours. The order, released by the District Education Officer (DEO) of Faridabad on March 25, aims to safeguard academic discipline, student privacy, and institutional dignity. The directive follows complaints of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff making reels and memes in government schools, disrupting studies and raising safety concerns. No entertainment-based videos are allowed during school hours.Schools can produce videos strictly for educational, cultural, or awareness purposes — but only after obtaining prior approval from the concerned authority and ensuring supervision by teachers. The department has laid down five key guidelines for schools:Academic activities must not be disruptedStudent safety and privacy must be ensuredNon-educational or promotional content is strictly prohibitedActivities harming school discipline or image will invite strict actionPrior permission from authorities is mandatoryViolations will lead to disciplinary action. The move addresses concern over privacy breaches and online risks. “The purpose of digital engagement should be education and awareness, not entertainment at the cost of discipline,” the department noted.
