In his 132nd episode ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday brought politics into focus as he cautioned against politicising the ongoing West Asia conflict, even as he warned of a potential global fuel crisis and its impact on India.Describing March as an “eventful” month globally, Modi said expectations of a stable recovery after the Covid pandemic had been disrupted by fresh conflicts. Referring to the war in India’s neighbourhood, particularly in West Asia, he said the situation continues to evolve with significant economic and humanitarian implications.The Prime Minister said lakhs of Indian families have relatives working in the Gulf region, noting that over one crore Indians are currently living there. He expressed gratitude to Gulf countries for extending support and assistance to Indian nationals amid the crisis.Highlighting the economic dimension, Modi underlined that the conflict-hit region is central to India’s energy needs. He said disruptions there are contributing to a developing petrol and diesel crisis worldwide, raising concerns over supply and pricing pressures.Calling it a “challenging time”, Modi said India is navigating the situation through its global partnerships and capabilities built over the past decade. He said these factors were helping the country respond effectively to external shocks.The Prime Minister urged political stakeholders to refrain from deriving mileage from the crisis, and said that issues linked to the welfare of 140 crore Indians should remain above partisan considerations.Reiterating his appeal, Modi called for unity among citizens, saying collective resolve would be key to overcoming the emerging challenges.
