IndiGo has launched a daily non-stop flight between Kolkata and Shanghai from March 29, widening its international network and strengthening air connectivity between India and the People’s Republic of China at a time when demand for business and leisure travel between the two countries is steadily rising.The new route is expected to ease passenger movement and support growing trade links between two of the world’s largest economies.The new service also adds to the airline’s growing footprint in China, following the restoration of Kolkata-Guangzhou flights and the start of services from Delhi.With this, IndiGo now operates 21 weekly flights to mainland China. The flight will be operated on the fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo, aiming to offer a more comfortable and cost-effective travel experience. The move is expected to ease connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.IndiGo said the Kolkata hub will allow smoother one-stop connections from several Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Bhubaneswar to Shanghai.Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said the new route strengthens air connectivity with China and opens up opportunities for business and cultural exchange. He said Shanghai, a key global financial center, will serve as an important gateway for trade and international travel.Flights would operate daily, with departure from Kolkata at 9:45 pm and arrival in Shanghai at 4:40 am the next day. The return flight will leave Shanghai at 5:40 am. All timings are in local time zones.
