Rajasthan Police have arrested four suspects who were allegedly connected with firing on Bollywood film producer Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu, Mumbai, on the night of January 31–February 1.Police in Sriganganagar today arrested Akash Nigam—a criminal from Uttar Pradesh who was injured after being shot during a police encounter—following his discharge from the local government hospital. A case had been registered accusing him of opening fire at a police team with the intent to kill. He sustained a gunshot wound to his leg when the police returned fire.Investigating official Subhash Chandra Dheel said Nigam was produced in court today and has been granted a three-day police remand for interrogation. The encounter took place on March 28 near Sadhuwali village situated along Sriganganagar-Abohar road. Nigam was riding an unregistered motorcycle. When a police team manning a roadblock signaled him to stop, he sped away on the motorcycle. Upon being pursued, he opened fire at the police vehicle. The police claim that Nigam is linked to the criminals who opened fire at Shetty’s residence in Mumbai. This group includes Shiva Gurjar, who was also wanted in a case involving the reconnaissance of a prominent figure at Sriganganagar.Police said that Nigam had come to Sriganganagar to arrange for Shiva’s bail. During the encounter, the police recovered a pistol and several cartridges from Nigam. Criminal cases are registered against Nigam across various states of the country. The Hanumangarh Police have arrested three of the criminal’s accomplices, and illegal weapons were recovered from their possession. They have been found to have links with the individuals who carried out the firing incident at Rohit Shetty’s residence. The Mumbai Police claimed that gangster Arzoo Bishnoi orchestrated the firing incident at Rohit Shetty’s residence by hiring a gang led by Shubham Lonkar from Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Police have arrested half a dozen criminals in connection with this case.
