Army’s top leadership underwent a change on Wednesday, with two regional commands facing Pakistan and one facing China getting new military commanders, and the force getting a new Vice Chief, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth.Lt Gen Seth took over in New Delhi, succeeding Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh, who’s now shifted to Western Command in Chandimandir. Lt Gen Singh replaced Lt Gen MK Katiyar, who superannuated.Lt Gen Sandeep Jain assumed command as Southern Army Commander in Pune, replacing Lt Gen Seth. Both commands face Pakistan and would form the frontline in any attack.The commands have a wide array of arsenal, including armoured formations, infantry, attack helicopters, and artillery guns. Each has a strike corps — 2 Strike Corps at Ambala and 21 Strike Corps at Bhopal.Lt Gen VMB Krishnan took charge of Eastern Command in Kolkata, focusing on China in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. He replaced Lt Gen RC Tiwari, who superannuated.The changes are ahead of the expected top change. Lt Gen Seth is the seniormost to be the Army Chief when General Upendra Dwivedi retires on June 30.In Pune, Lt Gen Jain said the command will focus on operational readiness. In Chandimandir, Lt Gen Singh reaffirmed commitment to high operational readiness. In Kolkata, Lt Gen Krishnan emphasised strengthening jointness and tech integration for peace and stability.
