Noted Punjabi poet and entrepreneur Sifar Satbir has been appointed as the National President of Indian chapter of the World Punjabi Sabha (Canada).His appointment has been widely welcomed by literary bodies, artists and cultural organisations across Punjab.The announcement was made by the organisation’s International Chairman, Dr Dalbir Singh Kathuria, in recognition of Satbir’s dedicated efforts toward the promotion and global recognition of the Punjabi language.Satbir, known for his commitment to Punjabi literature and culture, has been actively contributing through literary and financial support to strengthen the presence of Punjabi on the international stage.Prior to this elevation, Satbir served as president of the Majha Zone unit of the Sabha in Punjab. Notably, he established the first Vishav Punjabi Bhawan in India at his own expense in Amritsar, spread over 3,500 square yards. The facility provides free accommodation to visiting writers from abroad and offers space for literary gatherings and cultural events. Similar centres have already been set up by the Sabha in Brampton (Canada) and Lahore (Pakistan).Satbir has also played a key role in organising international-level Punjabi literary festivals, further enhancing the Sabha’s global outreach. Known for his humble and soft-spoken nature, he is a published poet who has contributed original works to Punjabi literature and served on editorial boards of various reputed literary journals.Prominent personalities from the literary and cultural spheres, including noted poet Gurbhajan Gill, academician Prof Gurpreet Kaur, poet S Prshotam, comedian and actor Surinder Farishta (Ghulle Shah), and several others congratulated Sifar Satbir and expressed hope that Satbir’s leadership will further strengthen efforts to promote Punjabi language and culture worldwide.
