The Government told Parliament on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wasn’t aware of the impending military attack on Iran when he visited Israel between February 25-26. Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, said “No discussions took place related to the matter” when asked if the Government knew about the attack.Israel and the US launched joint strikes on Iran on February 28, soon after PM Modi returned to India. Singh said PM Modi had stressed dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict.“The Government of India is closely monitoring the West Asia situation. Since the conflict began, the Prime Minister spoke to regional leaders, including Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the US. The External Affairs Minister also spoke with counterparts in these countries, emphasising dialogue and civilian safety,” Singh said.Over 4,75,000 Indians have safely returned to India since the conflict began. The Government is diversifying energy, fertiliser, and supply chains, and securing safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
