IndiGo has stepped up its international expansion strategy by deploying its second Airbus A321XLR aircraft on the high-traffic Delhi-Istanbul route from April 19, marking a significant capacity and product upgrade on one of its key international sectors. The move is expected to strengthen IndiGo’s global connectivity ambitions, with the Delhi-Istanbul route serving as a critical gateway for Indian travellers to access over 50 international destinations through the airline’s codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines. In a first for this route, IndiGo will introduce a dual-class configuration, offering 183 Economy seats alongside 12 IndiGoStretch seats, the airline’s premium business class product. The rollout signals IndiGo’s gradual shift towards a more premium international offering as it deepens its long-haul footprint.Passengers across both cabins will be served complimentary hot meals and beverages, with menus drawing from both Indian and international cuisines. Vegetarian meals will be offered as standard, while non-vegetarian options can be pre-booked. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase in Economy, while IndiGoStretch passengers will receive them complimentary, further enhancing the premium travel experience. The aircraft is also equipped with a next-generation digital inflight entertainment system, allowing passengers to stream a wide range of content, including films, television shows, games and anime, directly on their personal devices, aligning with evolving passenger preferences for on-board entertainment. The induction of the Airbus A321XLR remains a key pillar of IndiGo’s internationalisation roadmap. Earlier this year, the airline became the first Indian carrier to induct the aircraft type and launched flights to Athens, signalling its entry into longer-range international operations. The A321XLR offers improved fuel efficiency, extended range and enhanced cabin comfort, enabling IndiGo to tap into new long-haul markets while maintaining cost efficiency.Flight operations on the Delhi-Istanbul sector will run daily. Flight 6E 0011 will depart Delhi at 07.30 and arrive in Istanbul at 13.55. The return service, flight 6E 0012, will depart Istanbul at 18.20 and land in Delhi at 05.20 the following day. With this deployment, IndiGo is not only increasing capacity but also sharpening its competitive positioning in the international aviation market, where full-service carriers have traditionally dominated premium offerings. The introduction of IndiGoStretch on this route reflects a calibrated strategy to capture higher-yield passengers while continuing to cater to its strong base of economy travellers.
